Why I dance!

I love to dance, whilst listening to a piece of music something happens…something stirs inside me that I just have to bring alive through the visual art of dance. My passion now lies within the Bellydance genre and I very much enjoy fusing it with Jazz and Contemporary creating many different dance spectaculars

My stage names is Horizon, It just seems to fit, because of the spiritual connection with the earth, sky and planet. When I step onto the stage something magical happens, almost as if I evoke energy, I don’t think, i don’t analyse I just dance!

My favourite style of dance is when I have fire in my hands, it is as mesmerising to dance with it as it is to watch it...There are so many props that can be integrated into fire bellydance and I love both the sound the flames make when you move and to the warm energy it shares with you.

My dance Training…

As a child I studied Ballet, Ballroom, Jazz and Music Theatre at The Academy of dancing and Performing Arts. G.C.S.E. and A ‘level Performing arts followed and then a BA Honours Degree (Contemporary dance major). In 2004 a friend (thank you Leah) introduced me to Tribal Bellydance of Rachel Brice and I was totally mesmerised! My studies include Raqs Sharqi, American Tribal Style (FCBD) and Tribal Fusion with some really amazing teachers includes Amy Sigil from Unmata and Tjarda from the Uzume. Both have inspired me to follow my heart and fuse my love of Contemporary and Jazz with Bellydance. Other amazing dancers I have attended workshops with are; Heather Stants, Samantha Riggs, Rose Harden, Jesse Sandridge, Dawn O’ Brien, Pauline Q, Darkstar, Molly from Desret, Silviah and Frederique and Sharon Kihara.

Teaching...
I have been teaching for 3 years, my regular classes are in North Hertfordshire. During 2010 I taught workshops in Tribal Fusion, Cabaret Pastiche and Fire Dance throughout the UK, It's been an honour to sharing my love of dance with others, leaving me feeling very lucky and blessed to have dance in my life. Inspiring others to dance has been an amazing experience..
Choreography...

For as long as I can remember I have made up dances, when hearing a piece of music which inspires me I start visualise a few moves and then that develops into a full choreography. Since studying Bellydance the dances I have created range, from Contemporary Tribal fusion, Gypsy skirt Bellydance, Jazz fusion, Cabaret Pastiche and Fire Dance. The reason that our dance repertoire is so diverse is because the music that inspires me is so diverse. Never knowing where my next inspiration will spring up, it keeps everything organic for me. Being Artistic Director to Imajica Dance Company and choreographer to The Azimuth is both amazing, rewarding and in its self inspiring. It really is something to bring to alive my ideas, my dancers are totally committed, work so hard and are always willing to try something new. Their energy, in the rehearsal studio and on the stage is something quite magical, so I want to take this opportunity to thank them, without them I would just have a brain full of ideas.

Here’s to many more years of dancing and I look forward to updating this during 2011!
